Woodminster Cascade Park Restoration
Oakland, California

In partnership with a public citizens group, “Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation,” Singer and Hodges completed the restoration of the historic Work Progress Administration Woodminster fountains, watercourse cascade and reflecting pool.  The water features, associated park and amphitheater were designed in the 1930s and 40s by prominent regional Landscape Architect William Penn Mott.  The series of formal pools linked by a cascade carried over stacked slate and flanked by formal stone stairways leading up to an amphitheater, display characteristics of both the Beaux Arts and Art Deco movements.  SFE Design worked closely with the community in researching historic properties of the site and in identifying priorities for design renovation.
